In the August edition of the Vanuatu Daily Post’s Life and Style magazine, Sista Gat Style celebrated the confident and fierce GG Baxter. The LGBT rights activist and Executive Director of Vpride Foundation breaks barriers yet again with this stunning fashion shoot in Port Vila town.
The Sista team chose to shoot in a public space as an affirmation to all LGBT persons that they have a right to claim their space. GG’s photoshoot was met with criticism, particularly on social media where people abused GG using religious and cultural rhetoric to justify their discrimination. Even a couple of Members of Parliament sent a press release to denounce the ‘foreign lifestyle’ and called for the state to ‘do something about this.’ But mostly, the photoshoot was received with love and support from the public.
GG styled herself with the assistance of Patricia Stafford and was photographed by the talented Nicky Kuautonga. The theme of the shoot was ‘Africa’ with Vicky Lister assisting with artistic direction by identifying suitable locations around town and assisting GG with poses.
The amazing team at Body and Soul dolled up GG and set the team in the mood – thank you for the music and for meeting GG’s needs and beyond. Thank you all to the team behind GG’s fashion shoot and using fashion as a platform for not only artistic expression, but also as a movement to break down barriers.
