Vanuatu will be sending 20 runners to the South Pacific Games.

12 of these runners earned their spots from performances at the Vanuatu National Secondary Sports Games in Port Vila. Seven of the male runners selected from Port Vila are Tikie Terry Mael, Togo Joshua, Obediah Timbaci, Kapea Meake, Jack Nasawa, Nelson Sewere, and Junior Numake.

Two athletes were selected from Tafea; Hari Nakake and Sam Kulas and one from Shefa who is Steven Hungai to complete the team.

The David sisters, Claudie and Chloe, will lead the girls team.

They are joined by three players from Tafea: Talap Napuat, Marie Harry, and Malody Sam.

Two athletes were slected from Port Vila; Lyza Mares and Angel Nauguny, one from Luganville Baseline Bule, one from Penama Viriana Gao and Flaviana from Shefa making a total of 10 female athletes.

Athletics Team Manager and JICA Volunteer Ryosuke Itomi, said selecting participants from VNSSG was a challenging task due to their outstanding performance.

Itomi is asking all selected athletes to travel to Port Vila so that they can have access to facilities here and start preparing.

Training is expected to begin early October and continue until the departure date for the Vanuatu team.

Itomi revealed that the Vanuatu Athletic Federation and the Ministry of Education have arranged for the selected students to receive training in Port Vila while continuing their academic studies.

This first step is not only promoting team unity but also ensures the full development of the athletes, according to Itomi.
