Leina Isno’s “A Forest Shower, South West Bay Way” blends Ninde and English to reflect childhood games, forest rituals, and local traditions. Through playful observation and detailed imagery, Leina celebrates the natural world and the cultural practices of South West Bay, reminding us of the richness of vernacular storytelling.

Leina is an indigenous ni-Vanuatu from the Denemus tribe in Malekula and has been published widely in both prose and non-fiction, contributing to anthologies and climate poster series in New Zealand.

This piece is part of three submissions from SotSot Storian 2025 Committee Members, highlighting a mixture of vernacular and English writing in this year’s SotSot Storian series.
