We were born with a purpose and God’s calling in our lives and I strongly believe advocating healthy living through sports is part of my calling.

These were the words of Vanuatu Table Tennis women’s skipper and Zumba Instructor, Anolyn Lulu.

Lulu was born in Banks Island, Torba province, have three siblings who are all huge supporters of table tennis not only cheering from the side line but at one time were the core founders of the sport in the country.

Anolyn started playing table tennis in 1994 when she was still in high school and found out that her elder sister Emmeline Lulu was participating in the sport in 1995. She then joined the sport when a coach from New Caledonia came into the country talking more about the sport.

Following 1995 she was determined to train hard for the sports and put her one hundred percent effort into the sport.

She won her first gold medal in the 1999 Pacific Games in Guam where she played alongside her sister Emmeline and brother Ham Lulu.

That medal which got more athletes interested in the sport.

“It’s good to see that Oceania Table Tennis came in and gave us the opportunity to participate in u15 competitions which see the sport grow in Vanuatu and also the country’s improve in ranking,” she said.

“My journey was tough but I thank my partner for being very supportive and my parents for looking after my two sons when I’m away.”

Anolyn also agrees that she will continue playing the sport.

“I still have the energy and the power to continue playing.”
