Two sisters, Chloe and Claudie David, have been awarded presidential medals for their contributions to athletics in Vanuatu and their achievements representing the country at regional and international competitions.

They received their medals from the Head of State, Nikenike Vurobaravu, during Constitution Day at Independence Park in Port Vila.

Originally from Mataso Island, Claudie and Chloe have represented Vanuatu at several major athletics competitions, carrying the country’s flag onto regional and international stages.

Their father, who also coaches the two athletes, expressed gratitude to the government and the President for recognising their contributions to the sport.

Both sisters are based in Suva, Fiji, where they study and train while continuing to represent Vanuatu in sprint events.

Chloe, born on 3 June 2005, has established herself as one of Vanuatu’s leading track athletes, having competed at some of the biggest events in international athletics.

She represented Vanuatu at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

At the Paris Olympics, Chloe recorded a personal best of 12.44 seconds in the women’s 100 metres preliminary round. She also competed at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, improving her 100m personal best to 12.40 seconds.

Her younger sister Claudie has also made significant progress in her athletics career.

Claudie competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, gaining valuable experience against athletes from other countries.

One of her notable achievements came at the 2025 Coca-Cola Games in Fiji, where she won the senior girls’ 100m final in 12.60 seconds, becoming the first Ni-Vanuatu athlete to win the event.

She also overcame a hamstring injury to win gold in the under-20 women’s 100m final at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, Australia.

The sisters’ achievements reflect their continued commitment to athletics and their efforts to raise Vanuatu’s profile in international sport.
