A man from Blacksand area in Port Vila has been convicted of several charges of indecency and domestic violence involving his 16-year-old daughter.

The man had pleaded not guilty to four charges of indecency, one charge of threat to kill, and four charges of domestic violence in court. However, he was found guilty of several charges, including indecency, after the complainant’s evidence was considered worthy by Judge Viran Molisa Trief of the Supreme Court.

The first act of indecency occurred in November 2021 when the young girl was sleeping, but she did not tell her mother until two days later due to fear of her father’s retaliation.

The abuse continued with several incidents, including one where he forced her to perform a sex act on him in their kitchen.

The girl and her mother left home twice due to the abuse, and on the second occasion, the girl’s mother called the police after the father threatened to take his daughter’s virginity.

The accused was acquitted of one charge of threat to kill and one charge of domestic violence due to lack of evidence.

However, he was convicted of the remaining charges after the allegations were established beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of speaking out against abuse and the need for justice to be served in cases of domestic violence.
