The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended for Mrs Viran Molisa Trief to be appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Vanuatu.
Mrs. Trief will be the first Ni–Vanuatu female lawyer to be appointed on the bench of the Supreme Court of Vanuatu.
She was among 10 other local and international Applicants contesting for the position of a Judge of the Supreme Court and she was considered a successful candidate by the JSC as she has satisfied the qualification requirements under the Constitution and law to be appointed as a judge with wealth of experience from the legal profession.
She not only satisfied the qualification requirements but has a wealth of experience as Solicitor General at the State Law Office for 7 years appearing in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal on behalf of the State Republic and she currently is also the Program Coordinator of the Stretem Rod Blong Justice and Sefti, a Vanuatu Australian Policing and Justice Program.
In addition to the above, she also serves as the Secretary of the Law Council and Secretary to the Law Council Disciplinary Committee, which would be a great bonus to the Judiciary
Mrs. Trief’s appointment will be soon made official by the President of the Republic of Vanuatu and she is expected to commence her duties as a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Vanuatu by Mid-July this year.
Viran Molisa Trief’s appointment is a great achievement for Vanuatu and the Judiciary of Vanuatu, being the first ni-Vanuatu female judge as the first female judge was an expatriate.
