DG-Ministry-Climate-Change-Esline-GaraebitiThe Director of the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD), Esline Garaebiti, has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC).

Her appointment by the Public Service Commission (PSC) was approved late last month and will become effective next month.

Currently, the former DG of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Forestry and Bio-Security (MALFFB), Amos Moses, is occupying the position on an acting basis following his recent transfer by PSC.

Chairman of PSC, Martin Mahe, said Garaebiti has already been served with her appointment letter.

The PSC chairman said her appointment demonstrates the increased visibility of women leadership in workplaces within public service.

“Her appointment will bring the number of females occupying the Director General positions to three. Apart from the DGs, a lot of qualified women have been appointed as directors of government departments this year,” he said.

“The appointments of all senior public servants are purely merit-based regardless of gender.

“These women recommended to PSC have been recognized for their leadership qualities and capacity from previous positions.”

Chairman Mahe said Garaebiti’s appointment is an achievement to honor as Vanuatu is joining the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day this week.
