Ifira Black Bird were crowned Women’s Island Cricket Independence Shield 2022 champions after their hard fought 38- 36 victory against Eratap.

Ifira captain Bela Laban told Daily Post Sports that they feel proud as champions as they aimed and trained hard for this.

She thanked her teammates and most of all thanks God for guiding them to their victory. Laban is also encouraging more ladies of all ages to get into island cricket.

Earlier on the day Black Sands beat Vila North in a close battle by 49-48 to win the third place.

Ifira’s Shilda Nabakauruana picked up the best bowler award while Eratap’s Rone Kalskar got the award for top batter, batting a total of 43 runs.

On behalf of the Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA), Eddie Mansale congratulated Ifira and the other 3 teams and thanked them for coming out of their comfort zones to compete in island cricket and make the tournament a success

Mansale says winning or losing is not the main point but it is about how you compete in the rain or sun which matters more. He also thanked all who came to support the teams.
