Positive start for the women’s teams in the first round of Easter 7s Vanuatu Rugby Union (VRU) Tournament at Korman Stadium yesterday.

Ifira women won the first 7s series beating Ovins 10-5 while Police women finished off in third place.

Ifira women proved themselves too strong in the final match as they displayed a strong attacking game and were always ruthless in defence, they had a very strong sense of attack which kept the Ovins guessing their next move.

Follow up game was level one for Ifira and continues to dominate phases of the match, Ovins found a space and managed to score their lone try of the match.

Three women’s clubs participated yesterday and this include Police, Ovins and Ifira.

There was no show from USP women’s team but Daily Post Spots understands a few of USP students joined the three participating clubs.

Meanwhile, exciting plans for Vanuatu women’s rugby this season starting this week.

This year will be exciting for Vanuatu women’s rugby having received a financial support from the UN Women.

The funding is provided through VRU to assist women development in the sport.

They will start the four months women’s programme this week.

The training programme will include rugby clinics, Get Into Rugby, schools participation and competitions organised for women.
