To celebrate #NationalWomensDay we celebrate the funny, confident, compassionate and lover of life – Jinny Ruben!

Wife, mother of four and coach extraordinaire, Jinny is a walking blend of bold Pacifica style and contagious optimism.

Hailing from serene Pohangina valley in New Zealand, she highlights the importance of enjoying the little things in life as she shares how she spends her free time: having a cup of tea with a good book or spending time with family and friends.

With a heart set on uplifting others and a mantra of ‘low expectations, high hopes,’ she plans on setting up a charity aiding medical treatment and impacting women’s lives across Vanuatu.

Name

Jinny Ruben

Age

47 years old

Where are you from?

New Zealand, from Pohangina valley outside of Palmerston North.

Tell us about your family.

I am the middle of three daughters and come from a loving Christian home.
I have been married for over 25 years to my husband John from Tongariki. I am the mother to four gorgeous children – two sons and two daughters.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Simple things, rest on my bed with a cup of tea and a book or have a chat to a friend, go for a walk, enjoy a coffee date, spend time with my family and to be honest, in my spare time, I like to help and encourage others.

Any hobbies?

I like going on nice walks. In the past, I’ve enjoyed creating little handicraft pieces and I still do, I just haven’t had much time lately. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and my family.

What do you study?

A Bachelor of Health Science in Occupational and then a Diploma in Life Coaching

Do you work?

I sure do! I love my work as a life and leadership coach, and Occupational Therapist. I have my own private consultancy business, but I also do a lot of unpaid work which is equally fulfilling, which I am passionate about.

What do you aspire to do in the future?

Lots of things. Set up a charity to help people with tumors and other medical conditions get treatment and surgery they need to save their lives. To impact women’s lives especially through the work I do, speak at conferences and in communities around Vanuatu.

What is a quote that you live by?

A personal quote I live by is, “Low expectations, high hopes.”.

How would you describe your style?

I like bright and bold colours, matching my earrings to my outfit and using island design and fabrics.

Why do you like fashion?

you dress for success. When you dress up in something that you feel good in, it helps you represent yourself well and shows that you value yourself.

Who influences your style?

influences my style. But I also go to my friends and family for styling advice when I’m not 100% sure about my outfit.

What beauty products do you use (including perfume)?

At the moment, I use J’Adore perfume – I love this scent, Natio tinted moisturizer and bronzer, mascara and I also like to use a lipliner and lipstick.

Any fashion tips?

My biggest fashion tip is wear something you feel comfortable in and makes you feel like you. Also, body shape! Don’t purchase something because it’s currently in fashion, think about whether it suits your body shape first.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Empathetic. Humorous. Confident.

What is something you love about yourself?

I love the fact that I’m just me and I’m always my authentic self. I believe that because I can just be myself, I also give other people permission to just be themselves. And I think that this is really encouraging for women, and girls especially, that they need to just be themselves and be the best version of themselves.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

For me, I would say my greatest accomplishment is to be the mother of my four children.
