As we enter the Easter season to remember the great love of our God, who loved us so much that He sent His only Son into the world to die for our sins, it is also time to reflect and do a self-assessment of ourselves.
We, the people, the voters, have not seen the people-funded Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the sale of our passports. There have been many allegations of the sale of diplomatic passports as well. There have been allegations of misuse of the funds from this sale. The people want accountability from their leaders. When is the COI report coming out for the people to see? As we pray dutifully this weekend, let us not forget that our God is a righteous God. He knows and sees everything that we think, do, or say.
Our government leaders must explain to the people other incidents such as:
• The recent allegation of a road traffic incident involving the Commissioner of Police. The police enforce our traffic laws. They must keep the laws themselves.
• A police car that hit the car transporting the Director General of Health a few weeks ago is still sitting in the Ministry of Health car park three weeks later. Who will pay for the damage here?
• Since when did the Speaker of Parliament need a motor escort? What is happening to the Parliament truck that was involved in a crash?
• Our Prime Minister promised the people the removal of tinted government vehicle windows, the reduction in the number of government vehicles, and better use of these government resources.
• A few days ago, I personally witnessed a senior civil servant fill his private car with fuel and try to pay with an expired government refill card. He drove away without paying. Shameful.
• Can someone from Parliament confirm if the Parliament Secretariat is operational 24/7? I ask this question because I see many vehicles from Parliament on the road on weekends, at night, and on public holidays. If the answer is “no”, then this is a waste of money.
TIV wants to see our leaders do what they say, our laws be for everyone (not just for small people), and our leaders and civil servants manage public funds in a way that will provide service to the people and development for whole communities.
To the people of Vanuatu, ask questions to your elected leaders. Your vote is your right, and it is your power to make change for the better.
Vote freely. Do not be swayed by false promises and VT5,000 cooking pots.
John 14:14 states, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” God, we ask for your direction, love, care, and protection. Thank you.
