The Vanuatu Paralympic Committee (VPC) has confirmed the admission of para powerlifter Marek Sahi to represent Vanuatu at the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.

Sahi was scouted and longlisted following her performance at last year’s Para Powerlifting Melbourne Open, where she successfully completed all three of her lifts at 54kg, 58kg, and 60kg.

Competing as a short stature athlete in the F40 classification, her selection comes through a Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) bipartite invitation slot, a development the VPC has welcomed with excitement.

Sahi said she is optimistic about the opportunity, noting that this will be her first appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

“This is my first time, and I will try my very best,” she said. “I understand that I am not just representing myself, but the nation of Vanuatu, and I will do all that I can.”

VPC Secretary General,Seleana Enrel, said Sahi showed strong determination and commitment during her time in Australia.

Enrel, who also served as team manager and accompanied Sahi to Melbourne, praised her performance as one of the standout efforts at the competition.

“Marek has shown great interest and eagerness in the sport, and I truly believe in her potential,” Enrel said.

Powerlifting Australia has provided Sahi with a structured training program in preparation for the Games.

However, VPC officials noted that the program requires close supervision to ensure proper technique and prevent injury.

Currently, Sahi trains every Monday with other para-athletes at Korman under the guidance of VPC Head Coach Deni Kalenga, focusing on general fitness, strength, and conditioning as she builds toward her Commonwealth Games debut.
