The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), in partnership with UNICEF, successfully hosted the Vanuatu Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Policy Validation Workshop on 26 August 2025, bringing together government officials, development partners, educators, and community representatives to validate Vanuatu’s vision for early learning – the foundation of education in the country.

The workshop reviewed the revised ECCE Policy, last updated in 2018, ensuring it reflects national priorities and responds to the growing needs of ECCE centres across Vanuatu.

Through in-depth presentations and group discussions, participants examined key areas such as the policy’s purpose, vision, scope, and policy framework. The feedback collected has helped MoET in identifying improvements to be made in multiple areas, from curriculum and teacher development to community engagement and monitoring.

Mrs. Serah Vurobaravu, ECCE National Coordinator at MoET, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm in ensuring improvement in ECCE in Vanuatu. She said, “We are deeply grateful to all the stakeholders who attended today’s workshop and shared their expertise and insights. The contributions will truly serve Vanuatu’s youngest learners. A special thank you to UNICEF and the Government of Australia for their continued support in making this event possible and for their continuous commitment to early childhood education in Vanuatu”.

The updated ECCE Policy, supported by UNICEF’s expertise, includes a 10-year action plan to strengthen planning and budgeting, human resources, curriculum, family engagement, and monitoring – building a stronger foundation for education and the nation’s future.

UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside MoET and partners to ensure that every child in Vanuatu has access to quality early learning opportunities, recognising that the early years are critical for lifelong learning, health, and wellbeing.

This commitment emphasises the collective effort to continually improve access, quality, and management within the Vanuatu education system.
