Vepaiamele’s winning piece, “My Name”, explores the significance of identity and culture through the lens of a personal name. Her story reflects the journey of embracing her heritage, teaching others to honor it, and asserting the meaning behind her name: “Vepaiamele. That is my name.”

A proud ni-Vanuatu from three islands and four villages—Wunpuko, Narango, Lotahimamavi, and Lawa—Vepaiamele’s story is a tribute to the richness of Vanuatu’s culture and the importance of preserving our roots.
