A 16-year-old female student from Malapoa College was reported to have committed suicide at Erakor Half Road last Saturday evening.

Police received a report from her parents on the day the incident occurred.

The Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) is appealing to parents to discuss social issues facing children today, and also children to respect their parents.

The body of the deceased student was handed to her family after the coroner received the police report.

 

4 arrested for domestic violence

Four suspects were remanded at the Correctional Centre last Friday for domestic violence.

They were given separate charges.

The first suspect was charged with three counts — acts of indecency without consent, domestic violence and intentional assault.

The second suspect was charged for sexual intercourse without consent.

The third and fourth suspects were also charged for sexual intercourse without consent.

They will appear before the Magistrates Court for Preliminary Inquiry (PI) on June 20, this year.

 

Man gets suspended sentence for domestic violence

A man who had committed domestic violence has been given a one year suspended sentence.

He was charged with two counts of domestic violence.

He has already spent five months and four days in custody while waiting for his PI.

 

2 remanded for sexual offences

Two suspects were remanded last Saturday for sexual offences.

One was remanded for two counts.

He will appear before the Magistrates Court for PI on June 16 this year while the other suspect was remanded for breach of court (ball order).

He is expected to appear before the court on June 13.

 

VPF assists cyclone-affected families

VPF officers in Port Vila helped families residing at the end of the Airport area to evacuate to safe sites during the category 1 Cyclone Gina.

The area is a flood-affected area.

The rain from the cyclone associated with flooding also affected homes and garden crops.
