Despite having already secured qualification for next year’s Under 20 Football World Cup, Vanuatu insist they are fully focused on creating more history in Saturday’s Oceania final against New Zealand.

The hosts defeated Solomon Islands 2-1 in Port Vila to qualify for their first ever FIFA World Cup tournament, while New Zealand qualified with a 3-1 victory over New Caledonia in the other semi.

Vanuatu Technical Advisor Declan Edge said the team celebrated their achievement on Tuesday night but have moved on and refocused ahead of the final.

“It’s another day – we’re just getting ready to train again so we’ve moved on. The boys had a good time last night, I think. There was a parade around Vila last night. I think every man and his dog was out – there was cars and there was horns and it was like something out of South America so that was invigorating,” he said. READ MORE
