After clinching gold at the recently concluded Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Vanuatu’s star beach volleyball duo, Sherysyn Toko and Majabelle Lawac, are heading to South Korea this Sunday for their next international challenge.

Marking their 12th international outing this year, the pair will compete at the prestigious 2025 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures Busan Gwangalli, a women-only event set to take place from August 14 to 17 at Gwanggalli Beach.

The tournament is part of the wider 2025 Beach Pro Tour season, officially supported by the Busan City Hall.

According to the Vanuatu Beach Volleyball Federation (VBVF), the competition is crucial for the team as they seek to accumulate ranking points needed to qualify for the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia this November.

“The Palau event was really tiring and right after returning, we had to travel to Taiwan, which was also exhausting,” said Toko.

“But we’re excited to get back on the sand in Korea.”

Toko acknowledged the high level of competition in Busan but said their experience gives them an edge.

“We’ve played against many of the teams before, so we have a good idea of what to expect,” she added.

“We would like to get as many points as possible in order to qualify for the World Championships and make our country proud.”

Accompanied by Coach Manuel Maki, the national champions are calling on all of Vanuatu to rally behind them in support.

VBVF officials stressed the importance of this event for the team’s global ranking and ongoing preparation for the biggest stage in beach volleyball later this year.

The Gwangalli tournament is one of the final international qualifying events before the World Championships, making every match critical for the golden pair.
