Sista was proud to be part of the Vanuatu delegation attending the Women Deliver 2026 Conference, held in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia, from 27–30 April 2026. Recognised as one of the world’s largest global conferences dedicated to advancing gender equality and the rights of women and girls, the conference brought together activists, advocates, policymakers, funders, journalists, and young leaders from around the world under the theme “Change Calls Us Here.”
Sista was represented by Executive Director Yasmine Bjornum Covo, Program Manager Josepheen Tarianga, and Communications and Advocacy Coordinator Elsie Molou. Together with 19 other delegates from organisations across Vanuatu, they contributed Pacific perspectives to global conversations on gender equality, climate justice, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, disability inclusion, youth leadership, and feminist movements.
In the lead-up to the conference, Sista played a key coordination role in bringing the Vanuatu delegation together for preparation and planning. Delegates met prior to departure to build relationships, share expectations, coordinate logistics, and strengthen their collective advocacy. Sista also supported communication efforts by establishing a WhatsApp group, developing a delegation contact directory, creating a shared events calendar, and preparing a practical guide to help delegates navigate the conference and maximise opportunities for collaboration.
Throughout the conference, the Vanuatu delegation actively participated in plenary sessions, side events, networking opportunities, and regional discussions. Several delegates spoke as panellists and facilitators, showcasing Vanuatu’s experiences and leadership across a range of issues affecting women, girls, and marginalised communities. Sista’s Program Manager, Josepheen Tarianga, represented both Sista and the We Rise Coalition in sessions highlighting grassroots young women’s leadership and Pacific feminist movements, sharing lessons from Vanuatu and advocating for meaningful participation of women and girls in decision-making spaces.
The conference also strengthened relationships among Vanuatu organisations and created valuable opportunities to connect with regional and international partners. Delegates engaged in knowledge exchange, explored future collaborations, and amplified Pacific voices within global conversations on gender equality and feminist leadership. The Pacific Pavilion became an important space for Pacific delegates to connect, reflect, and build solidarity throughout the week, while the Women Deliver Cultural Night celebrated the diversity and identity of participating countries, including Vanuatu.
Sista remains committed to ensuring that the knowledge, partnerships, and advocacy strengthened through Women Deliver continue to benefit women and girls in Vanuatu. The conference reinforced the importance of collective action, local leadership, and Pacific-led solutions in advancing gender equality and creating lasting social change.
