We begin this new year with a strong and driven young woman – Steffalyne Tasso. She is a young woman working in the male dominated world of construction and carpentry. Driven by her desire to give back to her parents for the support and unconditional love, Staffalyne aspires to one day open her own construction business. Employed by Icon & Reeves, Steffalyne has certificate II from VIT and a certificate III from APTC in carpentry and has plans to go for her fourth.

Where are you from?
I am from the Island of Ambrym.
Tell us about your family?
I am an only child and I have the most supportive and loving parents one could ask for. My father is in the carpentry and construction business which is why I have chosen to be in this line of work because he is my role model. My mother is the most supportive person in my life, always putting her own life on hold to help me progress.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies?
I like to listen to country music and I love to cook, baking pies in particular.
What do you study? Do you work?
I recently graduated with a Certificate III in Carpentry at APTC and now I am working with Icon & Reeves in the Cooks Barracks Project.
What do you aspire to do in the future?
My short term aspiration is to get a certificate IV (4) in carpentry, long term is to have my own construction business.
What is a quote that you live by?
“Never give up on your dreams, If I can do it, you can do it.” – Unknown
How would you describe your style? Why do you like fashion?
I am a simple girl when it comes to style, I usually just wear long jeans and large T-shirts.
Who influences your style?
My style is influenced by people around me, I wear clothing that covers me up to avoid men calling out to me on the streets. I hope with this new journey in life I can build up courage and confidence to dress up the way I wish to express myself.
What beauty products do you use (including perfume)?
The only “beauty product” I use is Coconut oil. It would be hard to keep that up given the work that I do haha.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Resilient, humble and patient.
What is something you love about yourself?
I love that I am goal oriented. I would never have come this far if I was not.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?
Don’t give up, keep working hard… we made it.
