We stepped into 2026 with intention — taking time to reconnect, reflect, and set the tone for the year ahead. January was a month of grounding our partnerships, strengthening internal systems, and continuing the quiet but important work behind the scenes.

From regional feminist spaces to local collaborations, we were reminded that growth doesn’t always come loudly — sometimes, it’s in the steady work that keeps everything moving forward.

Leadership, Partnerships & Strategic Engagement

Strengthening Regional Feminist Connections

Sista’s Executive Director took part in the Pacific Feminist Fund Mid-Term Review, contributing to reflections on the Fund’s progress and learning during its early phase. It was a valuable moment of collective learning, and an opportunity to deepen our partnership and support the continued growth of feminist resourcing across the region.

Connecting with Australian Volunteers

Sista’s Executive Director had the pleasure of meeting with the Country Manager of Australian Volunteers, Terekea Kaltabang, where she reflected on Sista’s journey and the contributions of two volunteers who have supported our work at both programmatic and financial levels.

As we prepare to farewell our current volunteer, Neva Tran, we’re hopeful and excited about welcoming new support in the near future.

Program Development & Feminist Learning

Building Connections Across the Pacific

This month, Sista connected with Jay and Gladys Bartlett from Hatanga, sharing more about our work while learning from their experience, particularly the impactful work led by Gladys in the Solomon Islands. It was a meaningful exchange that opened up space for potential collaboration and regional solidarity.

Strengthening MEL Practice with IWDA

Our Program team also began the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) series facilitated by IWDA. The first session unpacked what MEL is and why it matters, exploring program cycles, key concepts, and how we can better track and learn from our work. We’re looking forward to building on this knowledge in the sessions ahead.

Laying the Groundwork for the Vanuatu Women’s Festival

Sista’s Program Manager met with Jane William from CARE in Vanuatu, Vivian Obed, Executive Director at Further Arts, Hannah Tamata, Enneth Fred from Port Vila City Council of Women and Ethel Tama from Vanuatu Youth Challenge for the first working group meeting for the Vanuatu Women’s Festival. Hosted at the Sista office, the session brought together these women to begin shaping what this collective space will look like moving forward and the key activities during the two day event.

Media, Storytelling & Advocacy

Brata Gat Style – Moses Cakau

To kickstart 2026, we are celebrating Moses Cakau — a proud man of Efate and Tongoa, creative storyteller, community-driven leader, husband, and father of three.

Moses balances cultural pride with a modern, professional edge. As the Founder and Executive Producer of Wan Nambanga Productions, he uses media, storytelling, and civic engagement to uplift ni-Vanuatu voices and strengthen public knowledge.

His approach to fashion mirrors this balance. For Moses, style is a form of identity — a way to honour culture, show respect in professional spaces, and move with confidence while staying true to his roots.

Grounded in family, guided by the wisdom of elders, and driven by the belief that “Tugeta Yumi Strong,” Moses reflects a style that is authentic, purposeful, and deeply rooted in identity.

Organisational Growth & Team Updates

January marked a fresh start for our internal systems and team structure. We welcomed back our intern, Carol, and continued working closely with our Australian-based volunteer, Neva, whose support has been invaluable.

At the same time, we began the process of recruiting a Finance Lead, an important step that will strengthen our systems and support the organisation’s growth. This transition will also allow for the continued development of our HR and Administration functions, as we invest in building a stronger and more sustainable team.

Projects & Community Engagement

Strengthening Gender Equality Resources

To close the month, Sista hosted a Validation Workshop with Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) alumni, focused on refining gender equality learning resources.

The workshop created space for young women to share their insights and lived experiences, helping shape materials that are practical, culturally relevant, and easy to understand. Discussions highlighted the importance of simple language, Bislama translations, visual tools, and making content more engaging for grassroots communities.

The small group had intensive discussions that offered insightful feedback. We are excited to continue this work to help support communities in learning more about Gender Equality and its importance towards nation building. This work continues to reflect Sista’s commitment to building knowledge and leadership at the community level.

Moving Forward Together 💜

January reminded us that strong foundations matter. Whether it’s strengthening partnerships, building internal systems, or creating space for learning, each step plays a role in the bigger picture.

As we move further into 2026, we carry this energy with us — grounded in purpose, guided by community, and committed to continuing the work, together.
