The start of the year has been full of movement, connection, and collective energy across the Sista team.

From strengthening partnerships and governance spaces to co-creating national platforms for women’s leadership and representation, February reminded us of the power of collaboration and feminist organizing in action.

Women’s Festival & Collective Action

Throughout February, Sista continued its strong involvement in the Vanuatu Women’s Festival Working Group, alongside partners including UN Women, CARE in Vanuatu, Youth Challenge Vanuatu, the Vanuatu Human Rights Coalition, Further Arts Vanuatu, and the Port Vila City Council of Women, with support from FWRM.

From January through to February, the Working Group met regularly to co-design and coordinate the 2026 Festival. This included shaping the program, identifying key themes and speakers, engaging partners and government stakeholders, and ensuring diverse and inclusive participation. Guided by shared values of respect, collective care, and collaboration, the group also contributed to communications, documentation, and post-festival outputs.

Through this collective effort, the Festival brought together over 80 women to reflect on the realities facing women and girls in Vanuatu and identify practical actions to advance gender equality.

The Vanuatu Women’s Festival 2026 itself was a powerful two-day gathering held in Port Vila, bringing together women leaders, activists, young women, and key stakeholders. The space allowed for honest reflection, shared experiences, and collective action.

Key discussions focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender and climate justice, and women’s political participation. While progress was acknowledged, challenges such as stigma, limited resources, and underrepresentation of women in leadership were also highlighted.

The Festival strengthened networks, built alignment across organisations, and resulted in a prioritized Call to Action (2026–2030), focused on accountability, collaboration, and sustained efforts toward gender equality.

A huge thank you to all Working Group members and donors for making this space possible.

Regional Solidarity

From 23–27 February, Sista’s Program Manager and Communications & Advocacy Coordinator participated in the We Rise Coalition Strategic Annual Retreat in Nadi, Fiji.

The retreat brought partners together to reflect on progress, strengthen relationships, and shape future directions for the Coalition. Conversations focused on coalition learning, governance, advocacy priorities, and sustainability—especially in light of potential funding changes.

It created space for honest reflection on what is working and what needs to shift, while also contributing to the development of a draft 2026 workplan.

More than anything, it reinforced the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and collective action across the Pacific feminist movement.

Media, Storytelling & Advocacy

Vanuatu Women’s Festival Merch and Content Creation

Throughout February, Sista’s Communications team led the design and production of materials for the Vanuatu Women’s Festival. This included creating branded merchandise such as notebooks, keychains, and mugs, as well as designing banners and printing key documents for participants.

During the Festival, the team also captured photos, behind-the-scenes footage, and interviews for Sista’s platforms. This content will contribute to a three-minute video requested by core donors, which will be featured alongside other National Feminist Forum videos from across the region—highlighting the strength and beauty of Pacific movement building.

We’re super excited to share this with you soon.

The Round Table Podcast – Episode 3, Part 2

In the second week of February, Sista also released Episode 3, Part 2 of the Round Table Podcast, generously supported by PACMAS.

In this episode, Dr Sale Vurobaravu joins Sista’s Executive Director, Yasmine Covo, to explore how everyday lifestyle and diet choices impact long-term health and wellbeing.

The conversation encourages practical, localised approaches to health, grounded in the realities of life in Vanuatu.

The episode is now available on the Vanuatu Daily Post website and our YouTube channel.

Strengthening Our Team

February also marked an exciting transition for Sista’s Finance team with the onboarding of a new Finance Lead, Nadege Malon.

She joins a team that has been supported by Neva and Anthea, with Carol assisting in administration. We’re excited to welcome Nadege and look forward to strengthening our financial systems with her expertise and experience.

Governance & Partnerships

Later in the month, on Wednesday 25th February, Sista’s Executive Director attended the first quarter VANGO Board meeting, contributing to ongoing governance discussions and priorities for the year ahead.

These spaces continue to be important for strengthening civil society coordination and ensuring gender equality remains part of national conversations.

Wellbeing & Community

On 13 February 2026, members of the Sista team joined wellbeing practitioners from across Vanuatu for an informal lunch and discussion, supported by the Urgent Action Fund.

Held at K2, the gathering created space to reflect key challenges and opportunities within the wellbeing sector. Conversations highlighted the importance of improving visibility and accessibility of services, with networking, referrals, and word of mouth currently being the main ways practitioners connect with clients.

There was strong interest in developing a practitioner directory and online platform to strengthen collaboration. Participants also emphasised the need to ground wellbeing approaches in the Ni-Vanuatu context, ensuring that concepts are clearly understood and culturally relevant.

Access and affordability were key concerns, with many people only seeking support during crisis rather than preventative care.

Overall, the session reflected a growing and supportive wellbeing community, with a strong interest in continued collaboration and shared learning.

Thank You for Walking With Us 💜

From national platforms to regional spaces, February has been a reminder that change happens when we come together, share honestly, and move collectively.

Tankiu tumas to all our partners, allies, and community who continue to stand with us.
