June was filled with moments of connection, reflection, and action as Sista continued working alongside partners, communities, and young people to strengthen feminist movements, amplify voices, and create positive change across Vanuatu and the Pacific.

Strengthening the feminist movement in Vanuatu and the Pacific to progress gender equality

Pacific Feminist Forum 4 Concept Note review

The Sista’s Communications & Advocacy Coordinator joined an online meeting with We Rise Coalition partners to review the communications plan for the 4th Pacific Feminist Forum Concept Note and explore ways to strengthen its visibility and regional reach.

The discussion reflected on communications approaches used in previous forums, identified lessons learned, and explored new ideas to enhance storytelling, media engagement, and collaboration across the Pacific.

We’re looking forward to joining this year’s Pacific Feminist Forum in Fiji and contributing to conversations that continue to strengthen the Pacific feminist movement.

Eliminating gender-based violence and harmful stereotypes

Reflecting on the Impact of the Round Table Podcast Through PACMAS Partnership

Sista’s Acting Executive Director and Communications & Advocacy Coordinator had the opportunity to meet with Rochelle Johnson, Program Manager for the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS), to reflect on the journey and impact of the Round Table Podcast.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss key learnings from the project and the important role storytelling plays in creating space for diverse, meaningful, and sometimes challenging conversations across Vanuatu.

A huge thank you to Rochelle and the PACMAS team for their continued support and investment in Pacific storytelling. The Round Table Podcast would not have been possible without their partnership, which helped amplify local voices and important community conversations.

Building a resilient, locally-led, feminist organisation

Anniversaire Maison des Francophonies Anniversary

Sista’s Acting Executive Director, Human Resource Lead, and Communications & Advocacy Coordinator attended the first anniversary celebration of the Maison des Francophonies on June 11.

The evening celebrated a year of bringing people together through cultural exchange, learning, community activities, and collaborative projects. Guests reflected on the Maison’s growth as a welcoming and accessible space for the community while enjoying live music, food, and kava.

The celebration also recognised the many partners, volunteers, members, and supporters whose contributions have helped the Maison des Francophonies thrive during its first year. Sista was delighted to join in marking this milestone and congratulates the team on an inspiring first year of strengthening connections and celebrating Francophone culture in Vanuatu.

Advancing the Wota i Toktok Publication

Sista continues to make progress on the Wota i Toktok publication, with the team finalising content and preparing the booklet for wider distribution. Over the month, work focused on reviewing and uploading the publication to the Sista website, while also coordinating with project partners to ensure it is available across multiple platforms.

Planning is also underway to produce the publication in both an academic format and as a high-quality coffee table book, making the stories and artwork accessible to a wider audience. To further enrich the publication, audio interviews with participating artists will also be added to the website, giving readers the opportunity to hear directly from the artists behind the work and deepen their connection to the stories shared.

Building Disaster Resilience Through Youth Education

Throughout June, Sista continued distributing the From Survival to Strength booklet through disaster preparedness workshops with students at Donna’s Elite Foundation Grammar School and Lycée Français Le Clézio in Port Vila. Across six interactive sessions, Sista engaged more than 200 students from Years 5 to 10, encouraging them to reflect on disaster preparedness and explore practical ways to strengthen their readiness for future emergencies.

Students participated in discussions and activities using the booklet’s resources, while schools received printed copies to support continued learning. Additional booklets and digital resources were also shared with three more schools across Port Vila, extending access to this important resource. Sista is proud to see young people engaging with disaster resilience and looks forward to continuing to support communities with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare for future challenges.

Reflecting on the Future of the Gender Equality Together Program

Sista joined CARE in Vanuatu and other stakeholders for a reflection and co-design workshop on the future of the Gender Equality Together (GET) Program. The discussion provided an opportunity to reflect on the program’s achievements, lessons learned, and opportunities for future phases.

Through its partnership with CARE, Sista has supported initiatives including the Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) and the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), which have helped young people build confidence, leadership skills, and advocacy capacity. Sista looks forward to seeing continued investment in programs that empower young people and strengthen the next generation of leaders in Vanuatu.
