To end our #SistaGatStyle this year, we’re thrilled to feature Lilly Edna Maki, Sista’s Logistics and Procurement Officer!

At 24, Lilly’s passion for community impact led her from studying Commerce to pursuing a degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. She’s grateful for her family’s support, especially her father’s encouragement to keep faith and stay resilient, values she brings into her work at Sista.

Outside of work, Lilly is known for her love of cooking, often trying new recipes from YouTube (earning her the nickname “YouTube Chef” from her siblings!).

Lilly lives by the verse Philippians 4:6 and a quote from Martin Luther King Jr., both of which remind her to have faith in her journey. She hopes to be a role model for her siblings and community, proving that hard work and belief can lead to meaningful change.

Where are you from?

I am from Ambrym, Paama, and a mix of Shefa and Torba Province.

Tell us about your family.

My family consists of six boys and two girls, including myself and my younger sister. My father’s name is Maki Samson, and my mother’s name is Leisavi Maki.

I deeply appreciate my father’s family for their constant support – a lot of our cousins on his side live with us. My dad is devoted to both our family and his own, and he has always encouraged us to prioritize our faith and put God first in everything we do. That’s one of the most important things I love about my dad and my family!

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies?

In my spare time, I love listening to music and watching YouTube or reels for new recipes since I enjoy cooking. My siblings would tease me and call me the “YouTube girl” or “YouTube chef” because most of my cooking ideas come from this platform.

What do you study? Do you work?

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Human Resources and Accounting and the University of the South Pacific. However, I came to the recent realization that my true passion lies elsewhere – I want to make a positive impact in my community. So, I changed my program to a Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management, majoring in Management and Tourism.

I believe that fate led me to my current role as the Logistics and Procurement Officer at Sista! I genuinely enjoy my work here, particularly working alongside a dedicate team of women, and I am continually learning and growing with them.

What do you aspire to do in the future?

I want to be a role model and a game changer, for my siblings, my community and my country. I want to be someone that my siblings, family and community can look up to and believe in themselves, knowing that YES! They can do it too!

What is a quote that you live by?

I live by a verse in Philippians, chapter 4, verse 6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Instead of worrying, focus on prayer and truth in the journey ahead. I like to pair this verse with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr., “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” I believe that embracing prayer can help us find peace and guidance, allowing us to move forward with confidence.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my fashion as simple and unique. I love wearing island dresses, especially the latest designs by our local designers. Most of my dresses are sewn by my mother, and she makes them fit perfectly.

Why do you like fashion?

I love fashion because it’s a fun way to express who you are and how you feel!

Who influences your style?

I think our local designers influence my style the most. I love seeing the latest designs, or the most trending design, and then I ask my mother to sew them for me. She’s a magician with her sewing machine as they always fit me perfectly!

What beauty products do you use?

I usually use coconut oil for my hair, Dove and Nivea for my skin, and I love vanilla scented perfumes.

Any fashion tips?

For that I would say choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel good—comfort is key! When you feel good, you look good.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Complicated. Nurturing. Inspirational.

What does be a woman mean to you?

Being a woman often means being a multitasker, you’re a caregiver, balancing responsibilities with strength and resilience. It’s about nurturing and supporting others while also finding ways to take care of yourself.

What is one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to see mistakes or take advice as stepping stones for growth. Each experience helps you learn and become a stronger version of yourself.
