On 19 September 2025, CARE in Vanuatu and Sista celebrated the graduation of the Yumi Wan Nomo – Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) 2025 cohort, recognizing the achievements of young women who successfully completed the program with support from the Australian and New Zealand Governments.
The graduation brought together government representatives, development partners, families, friends, and community members to celebrate the graduates’ leadership journey. Throughout the program, participants strengthened their skills in leadership, gender equality, public speaking, financial literacy, project proposal writing, advocacy, and workplace readiness through internships with local organizations and government offices.
The partnership between CARE in Vanuatu and Sista provided an important opportunity to support young women in building their confidence, leadership skills, and capacity to create positive change within their communities. Together, we were able to walk alongside these young women as they developed new skills, explored their potential, and prepared for future opportunities.
Graduates shared powerful reflections on their personal growth, increased confidence, stronger family relationships, and commitment to creating positive change in their communities. Their stories highlighted the impact of the program in equipping young women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become future leaders.
While the Yumi Wan Nomo – Young Women’s Leadership Program has now come to an end, we are incredibly grateful to have been part of this journey. We have learnt so much from the young women who participated — from their resilience and determination to their ideas, experiences, and commitment to making a difference. Their stories and achievements have been a true inspiration, and we are proud to have supported them throughout this chapter of their leadership journey.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates, cultural performances, entertainment, and a shared afternoon tea, celebrating not only the graduates’ accomplishments but also the support of families, partners, donors, and mentors. The graduation marked an important milestone in empowering the next generation of women leaders in Vanuatu.
