Tennis-Federation-to-celebrates-inclusion

For the first time, the Vanuatu Tennis Federation (VTF) will team up with the Vanuatu Society of People with Disability (VSPD) and the Vanuatu Paralympics Committee (VPC) to host an Inclusion Day this Saturday.

The event will bring together able-bodied and para tennis players for a day of friendly matches, shared stories, and tennis drills to foster community and promote inclusion in sports.

The program, which will run from 9am to 3 pm, will see VSPD actively involved in showcasing how sports can build an inclusive society.

VSPD, which advocates for people with disabilities, aims to raise awareness about the power of inclusion in sports and society.

Lorraine Banimataku, VTF’s Technical Director, voiced her enthusiasm, noting, “Whether able-bodied or not, everyone deserves to be part of a wonderful and loving inclusive environment.”

VTF has registered six para tennis players for the event, five of whom play in a seated format.

Banimataku is optimistic about the impact of the event, adding, “Tennis is one of the sports that has embraced para- athletes, and we now have a consistent schedule for wheelchair players. No matter one’s condition, everyone deserves happiness.”

While VTF has previously featured para tennis matches in the Regional Championships, this year’s increased participation has prompted VTF and the two- organizations to step in to host the important day as they will not be part of the championship.

The collaboration between VTF, VSPD, and VPC aims to make this event a memorable celebration of unity and accessibility in sports.

The day’s activities will conclude with a barbecue, providing an opportunity for further bonding and reflection on the value of inclusion in sport and beyond.
