Christmas is just around the corner! If you are looking for presents, head over to the Activ Centre on Second Lagoon to find a wide range of gifts including traditional artifacts, chocolate, woven bags and hand fans.
ACTIV Association offers a range of traditional and organic Ni-Vanuatu products from over 4000 members comprised of small producers, women’s groups, associations and cooperatives from around the archipelago.
This includes weaving products such as hats, bags, mats, wallets and fans. You will also find food products such as honey and chocolate as well as local artefacts including tam tams and original paintings.
With the aim of assisting members to better promote and sell their products, the income generated through ACTIV assists communities in remote areas to become economically self-sufficient and to encourage further production.
Recently the Virgin Coconut Oil facility was built at the ACTIV centre from May to September 2016. It began its operations in October. The project is co-funded by World Vision Vanuatu to assist the women from the communities of Etas to diversify their products and income.
ACTIV also facilitates skill-sharing and capacity-building workshops so that disadvantaged individuals and communities can start earning a sustainable income. Two of their recent workshops included sea glass and recycled jewellery making, which is in line with the association’s goal of having environmentally friendly production and environmentally sustainable projects.
The ACTIV centre is located at Second Lagoon. Keep an eye out for their fundraising events and kava and music nights on Facebook. They hold a ‘Market Day and Flea Market’ every third Saturday of the month.
