December was a month of deep reflection, meaningful storytelling, and steady groundwork for what lies ahead. Across programs, partnerships, media, and coalition spaces, the Sista team continued to centre feminist leadership, community resilience, and collective action — while closing out the year with intention and care.

Here’s a snippet of what we’ve been up to.

Leadership, Governance & Strategic Engagement

Sharing Sista’s Strategic Vision

This month, the Sista team met with the DFAT Vanuatu team to share our first-ever Strategic Plan — a milestone moment for the organisation. We were grateful for the opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, share where we’re headed, and acknowledge DFAT’s ongoing role in our journey. We look forward to strengthening this partnership in the years ahead.

Strengthening Safeguarding Practice

Sista’s Executive Director also attended a DFAT briefing session on updated Child Protection and Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) policies, which came into effect in September 2025. The session provided space for implementing partners to ask questions, share concerns, and strengthen understanding of safeguarding responsibilities across DFAT-supported work.

Women’s Leadership & Political Participation

Post-Training Consultation with PVCCW

In partnership with the Port Vila City Council of Women, Sista hosted a Post Training & Consultation forum led by Enneth Fred, following her participation in the regional I Am a Leader! training in Fiji. The session brought PVCCW members together to reflect on leadership lessons, campaign tools, and pathways for women’s political participation.

The discussion also created space for honest conversations around barriers facing women leaders, frustrations with slow progress on gender equality commitments, and the urgent need for stronger coordination and advocacy. Despite a delayed start, the forum reinforced the power of collective reflection and women-led leadership pathways in Vanuatu.

Community Resilience & Disaster Preparedness

Launch of the Resilience Video

To mark one year since the 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila on 17 December 2024, Sista produced and launched a 15-minute resilience video.

The video features five community members — including an elderly market vendor, a young mother, a person with disability, and a police officer — sharing their lived experiences, recovery journeys, and practical preparedness lessons.

Filmed across Lelepa Island, Wan Smol Bag, Freshwater 1, the Police Station, and central Port Vila, the video highlights both the varied impacts of disaster and the strength of communities in responding and rebuilding. Building on this work, Sista will begin developing a community resilience guide booklet in the coming year.

Knowledge Sharing & Resource Building

Resource Mapping for Stanap Strong and Sista Library

Throughout December, Sista continued resource-mapping work to strengthen the Stanap Strong website and Sista Library, supported by STAFE – Ambassde de France. Visits were made to IOM, the Vanuatu Society of People with Disabilities, the Department of Labour, and the Vanuatu Family Health Association to promote the platforms and request relevant resources for upload — helping expand access to trusted information across sectors.

Media, Storytelling & Advocacy

Sista Gat Style – Tancy Tarizulu

To close out 2025, Sista Gat Style celebrated Tancy Tarizulu, an elegant and grounded woman proudly from the island of Pentecost. Raised in a close-knit family, Tancy carries values of togetherness, resilience, and grace into her everyday life. The feature explored her journey, her love for family, and her appreciation for fashion as a source of confidence and self-expression, highlighting women’s stories that centre identity, beauty, and strength.

The Round Table Podcast – Episode 3, Part 1

The Sista Podcast Team successfully produced Round Table Podcast – Episode 3, Part 1, featuring a thoughtful conversation with Dr Sale Vurobaravu. The episode explores holistic health, self-care, education pathways into health careers, and how everyday choices shape long-term wellbeing.

Street interviews were compiled to bring in public perspectives, and sneak peek reels were created to build anticipation. The episode has been submitted to the Vanuatu Daily Post and will be released in January 2026, with Part 2 coming soon. This work is supported by PACMAS.

Partnerships, Volunteering & Organisational Learning

AVP Volunteer & Partner Organisation Workshop

Sista’s Finance, Administration & HR lead attended an AVP Volunteer & Partner Organisation Workshop, where participants reflected on volunteer relationships, sustainability, and community engagement. Through group discussions and storytelling, participants shared lessons learned, explored inclusive practices, and identified next steps to strengthen volunteer assignments moving forward.

Thank You for Walking With Us 💜

As we close out 2025, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners, funders, collaborators, and community who continue to walk alongside us. December reminded us that reflection is just as powerful as action — and that storytelling, preparation, and solidarity are essential as we step into the year ahead.

Stay connected with us, and keep an eye out for what’s coming in 2026.
