Dr-Natuman-applauds-hardworking-volunteers-in-the-MOH

On behalf of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Director of Hospitals and Curative Services in the Ministry of Health (MOH), Dr Sereana Natuman shared her sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy and knowledge to serve the people of Vanuatu.

In celebration of International Volunteer Day, Dr Natuman dedicated the day to recognising the selfless contributions of volunteers who work tirelessly at the health sector, to bring positive change to our communities.

“Volunteering is the cornerstone of humanity, where compassion meets actions, and I am proud to acknowledge the Ministry of Health’s partnership with some of the most dedicated volunteers,” she said.

“Over the years, several volunteers have joined our Ministry, specifically through organisations such as Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) and Australian Volunteers International (AVI).

“Their staunch commitment has been an invaluable asset in strengthening Vanuatu’s health sector.”

Dr Natuman emphasised how the volunteers have played an instrumental role in mentoring and upskilling Ni-Vanuatu health professionals.

“This approach is not only cost-effective but also ensures continuous medical education for our health workers, enabling them to provide better care to our communities,” she said.

“In 2024, AVI’s support has been particularly noteworthy.”

The Director said they are immensely grateful for the expertise of the following volunteers who have contributed significantly to various areas of our health system: Emergency Medicine Specialists, Nurse Educators, Paramedic Clinical Supervisors, Malaria Elimination Support Officers, Health System Strengthening Officers, Sanitation and Hygiene Mentors, Senior Management Support Nurses and Academic Coordinators for Clinical Training Programmes.

“These individuals have not only shared their expertise but have also created pathways for sustainable development within our health system,” she said.

“Their mentorship empowers our local health workers to become leaders and change-makers in their fields.

“You (the volunteers) go beyond words – you bring hope, build resilience and inspire us to dream of a healthier future.

“As we celebrate this special day, let us remember that volunteering is a two-way street. While the volunteers give so much to us, they also leave enriched by the experience of working within our vibrant culture and learning from our local communities.

“Let us continue to support and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism, for it is through unity and collective effort that we achieve greatness.”
