“In Australia and in Vanuatu we are working hard to promote women equality and stop violence against women but progress is slow and we need to continue our efforts to change attitude and behaviour.

“As a woman, a mother and a wife I am committed to playing my part in this effort to make our communities safer for our daughters”.

Newly arrived Australian High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Jenny Da Rin made many women happy with what she said at Australia Day celebrations in Port Vila on January 25.

She continued, “Here in Vanuatu on Australia Day, we celebrate this warm, strong and enduring relationship and friendship and the many links we have forged together. And I look forward to continuing to build on our successes and helping to make the relationship stronger still”.

She reminded all Australians to celebrate and reflect on and celebrate what it means to be an Australian. “Our ancient indigenous heritage, our beautiful and fragile environment, our competitive streak particularly on sporting arena, our tolerance, our creativity, our many talents, our culture, our melting pot of many cultures, languages and traditions that have all come together to create our unique Australian identity”, she said.

“As Australians we have much to be proud of. And no matter how far or how wide we roam, we still call Australia home. I wish you all a happy Australia Day 2017”. READ MORE
