Police-briefs

Man arrested for allegedly assaulting wife to death

Police in Port Vila have arrested a man from Santo for allegedly assaulting his wife to death on Monday night. The suspect is in remand at the Correctional Centre.

Families of the victim are urged not to take matters into their own hands while the case is under police investigation.

The Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) encourages women across Vanuatu to come forward to report any issues occurring in their homes, especially instances of violence. Domestic violence issues are becoming increasingly widespread in all our communities.

VPF committed to protecting life and property

Ensuring peace, protecting life and property is the mission of the Vanuatu Police Force (VPF). This message was given to all police officers during their briefing before May 29, National Referendum day.

Police officers ensure there was peace during voting.

The VPF thanked the general public of Vanuatu for cooperating with them on this momentous day.

Call for cooperation with Community Safety Teams

The VPF is calling on everyone to work with the Community Safety Teams (CST). The Government’s decentralisation policy aims to increase security for the people through these CSTs, and their effectiveness is now evident.

On Tanna Island, all CSTs are making noteworthy contributions, supporting police officers across the island. Their voluntary work is geared towards assisting chiefs and community members in accessing justice and advancing genuine community service.

The police urge all communities with established CSTs to continue working together to uphold community safety at all times.

Police Commissioner signs MOU with PVFA

Police Commissioner Robson Iavro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Harry Attison, President of the Port Vila Football Association (PVFA).

The ceremony marked the commencement of the Commissioner’s Cup for the year 2024, with the winner slated to receive VT1,000,000. The PVFA President expressed appreciation for the partnership with VPF, reflecting its commitment to the success of the Commissioner’s Cup.

“We work together with respect, to become a unified community, reflecting the main sentiment the VPF holds dear, aiming to instill a sense of self-esteem in every individual, developing respect throughout our communities,” the VPF Commissioner said during the signing ceremony.

The Commissioner believes that discipline, through sports, can effectively communicate the values of respect to community members. This MOU signifies VPF’s dedication to cultivating unity and respect across society.
