In March, we’re celebrating the dynamic Relvie Poilapa!

With roots in Efate Island and Papua New Guinea, Relvie is a proud mother of five who balances her life as a private consultant across various sectors of Vanuatu’s development. When she’s not working, you’ll find her exploring the stunning beaches, rivers, and waterfalls across Vanuatu, or offering support and mentorship to those around her.

Relvie describes her style as a mix of semi-casual with a touch of bold flair. She loves to accessorize with unique earrings and draws inspiration from her PNG heritage and Pacifica tropical designs.

Her life motto? Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and Maya Angelou’s wise words, “The desire to reach the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise.

Here’s to celebrating women like Relvie—bold, compassionate, and unapologetically themselves!

Name

Relvie Poilapa

Age

I am turning 47 years old in a few days!

Where are you from?

I have a beautiful heritage, with roots in Efate Island and Papua New Guinea.

Tell us about your family.

I come from a big family on both, my mother and fathers side living across Vanuatu, Australia and PNG.

I am a proud mother of 5 children! – 3 sons and 2 daughters whose ages range from 24 -12years old.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to spend time with close family, or friends, especially those who need support, counseling, empowerment and mentoring. I also love to read, and travel around this beautiful country we call home.

Any hobbies?

Being a local tourist; I am someone who loves the water, and swimming has always been a favorite past time. Over the years my work allowed me to travel extensively all over the different islands of Vanuatu, so I have been fortunate to explore and enjoy the beautiful beaches, rivers and waterfalls Vanuatu is blessed with. I love exploring new places. I also enjoy participating in advocacy programs or initiatives that supports and fosters environments for impactful change, particularly amongst women, youth, children and vulnerable minority groups

Do you work?

I work as a private consultant across various sectors of Vanuatu development.

What do you aspire to do in the future?

Strengthen the capacity of a few small, locally run and managed NGOs.

What is a quote that you live by?

I live by two quotes:

Philipians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and this inspiring quote by Maya Angelou, “The desire to reach the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise.”

How would you describe your style?

My style is mixed depending on my mood and is generally semi casual most of the time. I usually dress for comfort, but it can be stylish on days that I feel confident, funky or sassy.

As a teenager, I was very much a jeans and baggy t-shirt girl, and I can still resort to that even now in my 40s..but I may funk it up with a stylish top instead. I used to hate wearing dresses or skirts, but it wasn’t until I came into my 20s that I started to embrace a more feminine style.

I love long flowing dresses and can go for bold colors or cooler earthy colors. You will find me in flip flops most of the time and a PNG Meri Blouse, but other times I love long, flowing, loose fitting trousers or jeans and a nice top. I absolutely love earrings and have an extensive collection of unique stylish bold and striking earrings that I match with whatever I’m wearing for the day.

Why do you like fashion?

I like fashion because it’s a form of self-expression and I don’t think fashion is limited to just your clothing and accessories but can be extended to your hairstyle which I love to always change – I get bored with the same style after a while.

Who influences your style?

The influences of my style are a combination of my PNG side and other Pacifica Tropical designs that embrace bold striking colors and patterns

What beauty products do you use (including perfume)?

The beauty products I use daily are Vaseline lip gloss, sugar cane and coconut oil to moisturize my skin, and just a light hair conditioner

Any fashion tips?

Fashion tip: Whatever you wear, make sure it brings out confidence in you, be unapologetically yourself.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Open minded, expressive, deep thinker.

What does being a woman mean to you?

Being a Ni Vanuatu woman is powerful, but only when given the space and support to truly express your true self in all its entirety.

What is something you love about yourself?

When people feel comfortable enough around me to be exactly who they are, no pretending. Just absolute ease around me to share parts of themselves that they often hide or feel that they will be judged for.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My 4 beautifully unique children who I admire for their wonderful characters that they have grown into.
