The Vanuatu Cricket Association is continuing to promote women’s cricket and support the Women’s National Team as they prepare for their world cup qualifiers in Japan on April 26, 2017.

Local Law firm Ridgway Blake Lawyers who have a long relationship with local cricket, have offered some financial support towards the National Team prepare for this major tournament.

The team will take part in a leadership and team building exercise weekend at Le Life resort in North Efate as part of the team and personal development of the players. Women’s VCA development officer Judy Avok says, “We chose Le Life as they offer great team building and leadership activities and we thank them for their support.

“We would also like to thank Ridgway Blake Lawyers and Pauline Stam with her network of friends for their support and encouragement”.

The promotion of the women’s game in 2016 has grown the local competition which will in turn lift the standard of the national team.

Evelyne Blake from Ridgway Blake Lawyers said, “Until recently I had very little exposure to cricket and did not know that girls played cricket.

“This year I learnt of the women’s club competition and decided to give it a try. In short, I fell in love with the game. The national team’s coach, Eddie Mansale, and girls were on hand to teach me and many others the basic skills. They are a remarkable bunch of people.

“They were very patient yet very encouraging and supportive so I was inspired to keep learning and involved with women’s cricket. Now I am playing and really enjoying the game and the friendship it creates.
