The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) continues to deliver training under its Curriculum Improvement Programme (CIP), reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the quality of education in Vanuatu.

The MoET recently partnered with the Australian Government to run intensive leadership sessions for principals and deputy principals from 40 schools across all provinces. The training equipped school leaders with practical tools and strategies to support teaching and learning, with a focus on literacy and numeracy. Sessions covered instructional leadership, School Improvement Plan development, CIP implementation, and continuous professional development for teachers. One of the key objectives was to build principals’ capacity to serve as instructional coaches within their schools.

To support CIP’s goal of strengthening schools’ ability to deliver the national curriculum effectively, especially in literacy and numeracy, baseline studies were conducted in the 40 participating schools. These studies provide essential data to inform planning and shape targeted interventions. The MoET is committed to using evidence-based approaches to guide decision-making and improve learning outcomes.

Minister of Education and Training, Simil Johnson, joined the training and met with school leaders. He spoke about the central role of education in Vanuatu’s development and the need for strong leadership in schools.

Minister Johnson said, “Strong principals build strong teachers, and strong teachers create lifelong learners.”

“Our children’s success depends on the quality of teaching they receive. That is why we must invest in the growth of our school leaders, who play a critical role in shaping resourceful, capable citizens for Vanuatu’s future.”

He also encouraged principals to use data to guide their work, noting that their commitment is key to bringing change to classrooms and communities.

The MoET remains focused on improving educational outcomes by supporting school leaders and teachers across the country. Through initiatives like CIP, the Ministry is laying a foundation for a stronger, more inclusive education system for all Ni-Vanuatu children.
