The Government of Vanuatu is set to host a major cultural celebration in TAFEA Province from 30 July to 12 August 2025, under the banner of the 2025 Government Policy Priority.

This event formed part of a broader initiative endorsed by the Salwai-led Government in 2024 to decentralise cultural and economic development across the provinces.

As part of the National Sustainable Development Plan’s Acceleration Plan, TAFEA has been named the Cultural Hub and will simultaneously host the National Cultural Arts Festival, aiming to position regional hubs as models for cultural and social revitalisation.

The Cultural Hub initiative is a collaborative effort supported by the TAFEA Provincial Government, the TAFEA Council of Chiefs, the Malvatumauri National Council of Chiefs, the Vanuatu Cultural Centre and the Department of Strategic Policy, Planning and Aid Coordination in the Prime Minister’s Office. The programme is designed to showcase Vanuatu’s rich cultural heritage and artistic talents while building community engagement and regional pride.

Key features of the event include a Cultural Forum on Environment and Society, offering a platform to explore the link between culture and environmental sustainability, and the National Arts Festival, which will present traditional and contemporary art forms from across the country. A variety of side events will also take place, including a religious crusade in North Tanna and Erromango, horse racing and surfing competitions in Central Tanna, a round-island relay and rally in South Tanna and Aneityum, the TAFEA Film Festival in Southwest Tanna, and Pacific Music Vibrations concerts in East and Southeast Tanna, Aniwa and Futuna.

Tanna will also host Public Service Day, alongside the Melanesian Spearhead Group Senior Cultural Officers Meeting and Cultural Ministers Meeting. These events are expected to draw both local and regional participants, further cementing TAFEA’s role as a leader in cultural development and governance.

With a focus on inclusivity, sustainability and cultural pride, the Cultural Hub initiative aims to inspire similar efforts in other provinces, strengthening national unity through the arts. The Government encourages citizens and visitors alike to join the celebration and experience the vibrancy of Vanuatu’s cultural landscape.
