Toka-and-Lawac-leaving-for-Asian-Championship-next-week

Vanuatu women’s beach volleyball players Sherylsyn Toka and Majabelle Lawac are set to travel to South Manila, Philippines, to participate in the Asian Championship from November 5 to 10, next week.

They will be accompanied by their coaches, Miller Pata and Manu Maki.

Vanuatu is ranked 9th and is the only Pacific nation among 32 teams in the tournament, including Australia and New Zealand.

President of the Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VVF), Debbie Masauvakalo, said that the girls will participate in a preliminary tournament in Manilla before travelling to China for the World Tour Challenger Revenges.

“They will begin with the qualification rounds in Manila, which will determine single elimination status of each team. This means that the girls must secure victory in the qualification round to advance to the World Tour Revenge in China,” she explained.

“Achieving success in the World Tour Revenge will earn the girls’ points that contribute to their ranking, which is essential for qualifying for the World Championship scheduled for November 2025 in Adelaide, Australia.”

VVF runs a U19 development program three times a week and hold try-outs and games scheduled for January next year. Young athletes are encouraged to sign up, and teams from other provinces are expected to join.

VVF is also considering a Province of Origin Tournament to promote provincial pride and participation.
