Vanuatu will be launching the United Nations and European Union partnership program — the Spotlight Initiative, next week on October 26.
UN Country Coordination Specialist, Michael Taurakoto said the Spotlight Initiative is a multi-year partnership agreement between the United Nations and the European Union focused in responding to all forms of violence against women and girls.
Its primary focus is to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030.
This initiative will shed the spotlight on domestic and family violence, sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, femicide, trafficking in human beings and sexual and economic (labour) exploitation, all within the Pacific.
“We have a regional component in the Pacific that interlinks all countries,” Mr Taurakoto said.
“Vanuatu will be one of the main countries leading the Spotlight initiative since it has most experienced issues and reports of violence against women and girls in the country.”
Mr Taurakoto said the Global initiative will be launched on October 30 but Vanuatu will be launching earlier on Monday October 26.
