Congratulations to the newly elected board members of the Vanuatu Women in Maritime Association (VanWIMA), including Carissa Jacobe, Managing Director of South Sea Servies LTD, for her appointment as the new President. “I am humbled to be nominated,” says. Ms. Jacobe. “It is a great responsibility and a great honor.”


The newly elected team consist of:

President/Chairlady: Ms. Carissa Jacobe, Managing Director, South Sea Services, Ltd

Vice/Chairlady: Ms Lucy Joy, Fisheries Department

Secretary: Ms. Shirley Pata, owner of LC Tiwi Trader

Treasurer: Ms. Berthy Vireial, Martiime Commissioner’s Office

Communications Officer: Ms Annie Grace Emelee, Vanuatu Ferry

Rep from the Maritime Admininstration: Ms. Seloni Toakuru, Office of the Maritime Regulator.

The VanWIMA objectives are to promote gender equality, promote education, training and career opportunities for women, recognize the social responsibilities relating to women and to promote cooperation, friendship and understanding through the exchange of knowledge and the dissemination of information.


“To the newly elected board members of VanWIMA, your talents will be important for our success. I am impatient to work with you all,” said Ms. Jacobe. “We have many reasons to be confident, self-assured and assertive. We know the challenges we face. We read the headlines everyday. But let’s not follow the headlines. Let’s make the headlines. Today we turn a new page and you can count on us to give it our best.”
