18 nurses from Vanuatu’s Emergency Department have completed a three-week Emergency Nursing Training programme, the first of its kind.
The training is provided under New Zealand’s Medical Treatment Scheme.
Participants are from the Emergency Department, Vanuatu College of Nursing Education, and health facilities in Vanuatu’s six provinces.
“I work in the emergency department at Northern District hospital for 13 years and have never attended a training such as this,” says Claudine Bani, one of the two emergency nurse from Northern district hospital who attended the workshop.
“We have always found it hard when it comes to an emergency as we are without an emergency doctor. This training provides us with a broader knowledge of dealing and assisting doctors during an emergency.”
