Save the Children Vanuatu has appointed Relvie Matariki as its new Country Director, effective 19 January 2026. Ms Matariki becomes the first internal candidate in the Pacific region promoted to this role, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to local leadership and developing Pacific talent.

Matariki has been with Save the Children Vanuatu for over four years, most recently serving as Program Operations Director. She has overseen key programs, emergency responses, and partnerships with local and international stakeholders. Her leadership was particularly evident during the COVID-19 response, the 2023 twin cyclones, and recent earthquake relief efforts.

In 2025, Matariki completed a year-long secondment at Save the Children Australia’s Head Office in Melbourne, gaining experience on regional projects across Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. Her earlier career in Vanuatu’s telecommunications sector provided strong operational and leadership experience.

“I’m honoured to step into this role and continue serving the children and families of Vanuatu,” said Matariki. “These experiences have shaped my commitment to this work, and I look forward to building on the relationships we’ve created.”

Her appointment demonstrates the value of local talent and leadership rooted in the Pacific context, aligning with Save the Children’s mission to ensure every child grows up healthy, educated, and safe.

Save the Children Vanuatu works with local partners, government ministries, and communities to deliver life-saving assistance, education, and protection for children across the Pacific.
