On 22 May 2026, Sista Vanuatu, in partnership with ProMedical Vanuatu, officially launched the earthquake preparedness booklet, From Survival to Strength: Learning from the 17th December 2024 Earthquake and Preparing for Future Disasters, at the Grand Hotel, Port Vila.
Developed under the theme #TugetaBaiYumiRedi, the booklet captures the lived experiences of survivors of the 17 December 2024 earthquake alongside practical disaster preparedness information, first aid guidance, and resources contributed by organizations working in disaster risk reduction and community resilience.
The launch at the Grand Hotel brought together representatives from government, civil society, humanitarian organizations, and community groups to reflect on lessons learned from past disasters and strengthen collaboration for future emergency preparedness. A highlight of the event was the moving story-sharing session, where contributors courageously shared their personal experiences of surviving the earthquake, reinforcing the importance of community resilience and preparedness.
Participants also took part in an interactive First Aid demonstration facilitated by ProMedical Vanuatu, providing practical skills that complemented the guidance featured in the booklet.
The event concluded with networking and discussions on strengthening partnerships to build safer and more resilient communities across Vanuatu. The launch marked an important milestone in ensuring that the lessons of the 2024 earthquake continue to inform preparedness efforts, empowering individuals, families, and communities to be better prepared for future disasters.

As part of this project, Sista also produced a short video last year capturing community experiences and lessons learned from the 17 December 2024 earthquake. Click here to watch the video.
Sista continued this awareness and conversations around the booklet with more than 200 children from two schools in Port Vila. Read more about which schools the team visited and the conversations that were encouraged during the visits.
