Sista has partnered with World Vision Vanuatu this year to help strengthen the current Inclusive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives being carried out in target communities around Vanuatu.
Sista’s efforts focus on advocating for climate-resilient WASH needs, especially for the most vulnerable groups, including women, people with disabilities, and those with diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE).
Through a range of workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building activities the team at Sista hopes to generate further discussion around inclusive practices and improve overall community well-being.

This partnership has allowed the Sista team to learn through a collective series of workshops focused on inclusive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices and current projects being facilitated by World Vision Vanuatu’s WASH Portfolio.
These workshops have included training sessions on disability-inclusive WASH, safeguarding, and child protection, as well as the “Strongim Mama, Strongim Sista” program. All of these workshops have built Sista’s team members capacity by providing them with knowledge needed around inclusive WASH initiatives and they are crucial for addressing the specific WASH needs of vulnerable groups such as women, people with disabilities, and those with diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE).

Sista’s main objective in this partnership is creating a Media Campaign to highlight the key WASH needs of these vulnerable groups in our communities. Sista’s Communications team has partnered with Glenda Sumsum from Lokol Konect and sought support from Markson Taiki from MATAKAMBU to help develop the key WASH needs into a Media Campaign. To do this, Sista’s Acting Program Manager, Comms & Advocacy Coordinator facilitated a three-day Advocacy workshop in Santo with key members from World Vision Vanuatu’s target communities from Santo and Torba. We are looking forward to developing this Media Campaign and shining light on peoples WASH needs in the hopes for better change.

World Vision Vanuatu has also established a working group that includes VPride, Wan Smol Bag, Vanuatu Society for People with Disability (VSPD), and Sista. This group is focused on organizing a potential forum at the end of the year, aiming to raise awareness and advocate for the rights and WASH needs of these vulnerable groups. The Media Campaign is intended to feed into this forum to ensure that their voices are heard, their issues are brought to light, and their needs are addressed.

To add on to our learning journey, World Vision Vanuatu has carried out safeguarding training sessions with the team, which are vital for the growth and development of growing organizations, like Sista. These training sessions have provided us with essential knowledge on how to protect the safety and well-being of all project participants, particularly the most vulnerable. We understand that by implementing strong safeguarding policies, Sista can ensure that all future projects are carried out responsibly and in a safe environment for everyone involved.
THANK YOU World Vision Vanuatu for partnering with us this year! We appreciate the learning we have done so for with the team and look forward to continue this journey.
