December marked a vibrant end to the year for Sista, with activities that empowered women and celebrated collective achievements.
The #SheCanVote Mini Forum brought women together to identify key political priorities ahead of the snap election, which created a stronger voice for women in Vanuatu. The 16 Days of Activism campaign engaged workplaces across the private sector, raising awareness about sexual harassment and creating safer work environments. Internationally, Sista was proud to represent Vanuatu at the AWID Forum in Bangkok, sharing experiences on justice delivery and connecting with feminist leaders across the Pacific.
The team also celebrated personal milestones, with our Finance & Admin Officer and HR & Finance Manager completing the Malkia Leadership Program.
We wrapped up the year with a fun Christmas lunch, reflecting on the progress made and the partnerships that made it all possible. We are excited to continue our journey with you all in the year ahead!

Lilly Maki – Sista Gat Style, Vanuatu Daily Post
To end our #SistaGatStyle this year, we’re thrilled to feature Lilly Edna Maki, Sista’s Logistics and Procurement Officer!
At 24, Lilly’s passion for community impact led her from studying Commerce to pursuing a degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. She’s grateful for her family’s support, especially her father’s encouragement to keep faith and stay resilient, values she brings into her work at Sista.
Outside of work, Lilly is known for her love of cooking, often trying new recipes from YouTube (earning her the nickname “YouTube Chef” from her siblings!).
Lilly lives by verse Philippians 4:6 and a quote from Martin Luther King Jr., both of which remind her to have faith in her journey. She hopes to be a role model for her siblings and community, proving that hard work and belief can lead to meaningful change.

16 Days of Activism doing Sexual Harassment Presentations in Private Sector Workplaces – CARE
The “Tugeta Yumi Wok Blong Stopem Seksual Harassment Long Wokples” campaign, led by Sista in partnership with CARE in Vanuatu and the YWLP Alumni, aimed to raise awareness about sexual harassment in private sector workplaces during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
From November 18 to December 10, 2024, short, impactful awareness sessions were conducted at Guard Island Security, Better Energy, Tahos Timber, Titan FX, ESQAL and Kaiviti Motel. These sessions introduced employees to the forms, impacts, and resources available for addressing sexual harassment, fostering open and meaningful discussions.
The initiative was strengthened by a preparatory workshop that trained YWLP Alumni as facilitators and supported by advocacy materials like posters, T-shirts, and stickers to amplify the message. This project empowered employees and employers to create safer work environments while also showcasing the leadership of young women.
The campaign’s success paves the way for future advocacy efforts and increased community engagement to combat workplace harassment in Vanuatu.

She Can Vote, Mini Forum – We Rise Coalition
On December 12, 2024, Sista hosted the #SheCanVote Mini Forum at the Alliance Française Public Library in Port Vila. This event brought together diverse women to discuss key political issues affecting women and girls, and to amplify their voices in the lead-up to the snap election. Participants included civil society representatives and alumni from Sista and CARE’s Young Women’s Leadership Program, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights.
The forum focused on pressing issues such as health, education, infrastructure, climate change, women in leadership, ending violence against women and girls, and women’s livelihoods and business. Together, we worked to develop an outcome statement calling for candidates and political parties to address these priorities in their campaigns.
The Sista team were fortunate to have the support of We Rise Coalition’s Communications officer to help prepare for this event. The WRC communications officer researched and compiled the presentation with the aim of enhancing the female participants’ confidence and their ability to make informed decision on who to vote for in the snap election of 2025.
A huge thanks to FRIDA Fund and the We Rise Coalition for their continuous support!
And thank you to everyone who joined us in this powerful discussion. Together, we are driving the change we all want to see.
