Funds raised by generous donations have resulted in this gift- a birthing bed to the Vila Central Hospital (VCH).

The bed costs approximately AUD$10,000 and is a welcome addition to VCH.

It will assist the staff to continue to endeavour to improve the quality of labour and birth options.

A birthing bed that can be moved to assist birth is of great benefit to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.

The easy to move parts can support the woman when choosing different positions to birth, reduce birth trauma as well as improve access for the obstetrician when an assisted birth is required.

The VCH acknowledge Shastene Lowis, a volunteer midwife from Australia who has coordinated this donation from midwives at North West Private Hospital, North West Private Hospital Executive, Dr Bob Watson, an Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist, Hill-Rom Australia, the Seaside Stitchers and the Community of Yeppoon, QLD.

This small group, the Seaside stitchers with many helpers in Yeppoon held a ‘High Tea’ fundraiser raising $3,300.00 towards the bed.

Hill-Rom Australia matched the funds raised to see the bed on its journey, taking almost one year to arrive.
