Team Impulse has won the 2024 Port Vila Netball Association (PVNA) Independence Cup.

After defeating Malapoa College Empresses 27-16 in the semi-finals, Impulse faced Ambassadors in the grand final, who had advanced by winning 29-22 against Sia Raga in their semi-final match.

The grand final was intense, with Ambassadors giving the PVNA defending champions a tough challenge.

However, Impulse proved too powerful with their well-structured game and precise shooting, ending the match with a decisive 39-22 victory.

Sia Raga claimed third place by defeating Malapoa College Empresses 35-27.

Impulse captain Jacqueline Songi expressed her delight at winning the tournament and praised the outstanding teamwork displayed throughout the competition.

Songi notes that many of her teammates, including herself, have been playing together since their teenage years, which has fostered their strong teamwork.

Impulse showcased many new players in the tournament, including younger sisters of the current team members, and Songi hopes to inspire more girls to join the sport.

PVNA President, Minnie Takaro, thanked all six teams who participated and congratulated Impulse on remaining unbeaten from the pool games to the grand final.

The tournament was solely sponsored by the PVNA, but Songi hopes that future investors will support the PVNA League and its tournament

The PVNA League resumes on Saturday.

In Saturday’s fixtures, Malapoa College Empresses will play Ambassadors followed by Aurora and Manarokesa at Korman Stadium.

Sia Raga will meet Blue Raven, Impulse takes on Tavola and Buluana end the day’s action against Yeba Swifts.
