CARE has been implementing its fifth cycle of the Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) since 2017. SISTA officially joined as a co-implementor in 2021. The program is generously supported by the Australian government and takes a selected group of young women aged 18-30 on a 12-month leadership journey to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence through a series of workshops, small activities and mentoring.

One of the activities initiated under the YWLP is internship placements. The purpose of the internship is to increase participants learning and allow them to experience a work environment.

The internships also provide a wonderful opportunity for organisations and workplaces to bring in fresh perspectives and discover new ideas from young women, enhance the supervisory skills of your staff and have an extra pair of hands to support your work. You will also be contributing to the National Gender Equality Policy’s Strategic Area 2 of enhancing women’s economic empowerment and skills development by enabling young women’s participation in the workforce. Together we can build a resilient and strong Vanuatu!

CARE and SISTA are looking for organizations and workplaces who are interested in providing internships. What we need from you as a host organisation is:

  • A willingness to support young women leaders emerging in workforce
  • A willingness to learn how to make a workplace more gender equitable
  • A clear job description
  • Evidence of a safe working environment
  • A supervisor or mentor to be assigned to support skills development and assign tasks

CARE and SISTA will link you with a young woman leader, and will cover the stipend for up to 20 days of work experience. We will also check in with the intern throughout her placement and provide support as it arises. Please email rosina@sista.com.vu by July 21st 2023 if you are interested in hosting an intern for up to 20 days between August 2023 – September 2023.
