The Ministry of Health (MOH) will celebrate National Health Week at Saralana Park in Port Vila from Monday to Friday next week.

Healthcare workers from the SHEFA Health and Vila Central Hospital (VCH) will offer free health services to the public, including medical check-ups, screenings, and health awareness sessions on sexual reproductive health, nutrition, disease prevention, and mental well-being.

The public will also have access to backyard gardening and agricultural showcases promoting sustainable food practices, along with waste management and climate change awareness activities.

The ministry said the initiative aims to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge and resources needed to lead healthier lives.

In addition to health-focused activities, Vanuatu National Health Week will feature fun competitions, such as a string band competition, school debates, quizzes with exciting prizes, sporting activities for all ages, cooking demonstrations with healthy local foods, scholarship information booths, and a jumping castle for children.

According to the MOH, the event will start with a parade on Monday, beginning at Seaside Market and heading to the venue at 1pm. The ministry’s new slogan “Mi helti, mi hapi,” which links health and happiness, will be launched following the official opening.

The ministry said National Health Week reflects its commitment to making healthcare accessible to all, including people with disabilities.

“We want to encourage everyone to take part in this celebration of health,” said Minister of Health, John Still Tari Qetu. “This event is an opportunity for families, schools, and communities to learn simple, effective ways to improve their health and well-being, while having fun together.”

The event is being held in collaboration with key partners, including the World Health Organisation, the Australian Government, UNICEF, World Vision Vanuatu, and Vodafone. The MOH extended its gratitude to the many other organisations that will participate and provide valuable services throughout the week.

The week-long event promises to be fun, family-friendly, and educational, offering a wide range of activities and health services to empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives.
