Nurses from the Vanuatu Central Hospital (VCH) and nurse educators from the Vanuatu College of Nursing Education (VCNE) are participating in an intensive capacity-building program, facilitated by the Indonesia’s Ministry of Health (MoH)

This training highlights a commitment to enhance the skills and preparedness of Vanuatu’s healthcare professionals, said Vanuatu’s MOH.

Participants are from key departments of VCH, including Emergency, Neonatal Intensive Care, Children’s Ward, Medical, Surgical, Intensive Care Unit, and Children’s Outpatient are attending the program until November 16.

They are being trained on a range of critical areas, such as Basic Trauma Cardiac Life Support, covering pediatric and neonatal basic life support; Advanced Cardiac Life Support; Nursing Assessment and Clinical Management Skills; Emergency Nursing in Coastal Communities; Integrated Management of Childhood Illness; Fluid and Electrolyte Imbalance Management; Diabetic Wound Care and Education.

These training modules target specific areas identified as essential to further enhancing healthcare services in Vanuatu, ensuring that local nurses are equipped to respond to emergencies, said the ministry.

“By addressing critical gaps in healthcare, this program aims to raise the standard of medical care provided in Vanuatu, particularly in handling emergencies and providing day-to-day nursing care and specialized care.

“In addition to conducting the training, the delegation visited health facilities on Efate, including VCH and Maurifanga (Imere) Health Centre, to further assess local healthcare needs and explore potential avenues for continued cooperation.

“This support for the Vanuatu health system, particularly in capacity building for our nurses, is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to strengthen health service delivery across the country. Investments in training and resources not only enhance the skills of our healthcare professionals but also ensure that our communities receive the quality care they deserve.

“We express our deep gratitude for this contribution, which will have a lasting positive impact on healthcare outcomes in Vanuatu.”

The Indonesian delegation, comprising distinguished representatives including the Director General of Health Workforce, Albertus Yudha Peradi, the Director of Health Polytechnic Semarang, Jeffri Ardiyanto, Counsellor to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Australia, Dr. Gulardi Nurbintoro, and a team of respected lecturers from three major Indonesian universities arrived on Monday.
