PI-for-senior-police-officer-facing-sexual-charges-adjourned

The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) hearing for a senior police officer accused for sexual offences has been adjourned from November 7 to November 21.

The senior Vanuatu police officer has been charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent contrary to section 90 and 91 of the Penal Code (Cap 135).

The alleged incidents occurred in July 6th and July 9th, and the officer remains on remand pending further investigations.

The charges against the senior officer of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent are serious.

The alleged victim, a 54-years-old woman from Australia, lodged her complaint in September 2024.

Under the law, everyone is presumed innocent until proven in court. This is not the first time for a senior police officer to be accused for sexual offence.

The accused officer remains under police custody.
