Seven domestic violence orders served last week

The Vanuatu Police Force’s (VPF) General Duties Unit in Port Vila served seven domestic violence orders last week. Most of the applicants are seeking protection from violence within their homes.

Both men and women have been compelled to apply for these orders to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of their children, and to ensure that the defendants are removed from the household. These orders also aim to send a clear message that such actions are unacceptable, and encourage defendants to change their behaviour for the sake of building a healthier family dynamic.

The public is advised to take care of their families and to think carefully before taking any actions that may harm others.

Pacific Police Policy Network Workshop tackles regional security challenges

The Pacific Police Policy Network Workshop commenced yesterday at the Ramada Resort in Port Vila, gathering law enforcement officials from across the Pacific to address critical issues and promote collaborative solutions for enhanced regional security.

The workshop was officially opened by Deputy Commissioner of Operations (DCP Ops) Willie Ben, who emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in tackling transnational crime, improving community safety, and addressing the unique challenges faced by Pacific Island nations.

In his opening speech, DCP Ops Ben stated, “This workshop is not only about sharing knowledge; it is about building relationships that strengthen our commitment to keeping our communities safe. Together, we can confront the complex security issues affecting our region.”

Participants include senior police officials, policymakers, and representatives from various Pacific nations, all eager to exchange best practices and develop a strategic framework for improving policing policies tailored to the specific needs of Pacific communities.

A key focus of the workshop is legal policy development. The three-day event will feature discussions, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration among attendees.

The workshop aims to produce a comprehensive action plan that aligns with the objectives of the Pacific Police Policy Network, which seeks to ensure that policing in the region is responsive, inclusive, and effective.

As the event progresses, participants are optimistic about the potential for stronger partnerships and innovative solutions to address pressing security challenges in the Pacific, culminating in a unified vision for a safer region.
